about

This is a hymn sung for Christmas. The words, by poet Christina Rosetti, were originally published as a poem in Scribner’s Monthly magazine. We chose to sing the first and last verse.

Words: Christina Rosetti (1872)

lyrics

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone

Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter, long ago

What I can I give him, poor as I am,
If I were a shepard, I would bring a lamb

If I were a wise man, I would do my part,
Yet what I can I give him, give my heart
