about

This tune is a favorite in the shape-note or Sacred Harp tradition that Elisabeth grew up in as she and her family went to all-day singing gatherings in the Midwest. We changed the words of this song slightly to reflect the power of sisterhood. We were also partial to this tune because “Lloyd” (and variants of) is one of Elisabeth’s many nicknames.

lyrics

My sister and my queen, thy beauties are divine
Thy lips, with blessings overflow, and every grace is thine

The smilings of thy face, how amiable they are
Tis heaven to rest, in thine embrace, and no where else but there

Nor earth nor all the sky, could one delight afford
No not, a drop, of they real joy, without thy blessings Lloyd.
